This is the perfect starting point for you.
What we'll cover: We will teach you how to keep score, understand court positioning, and hit basic pickleball shots.
Your current skill: You are brand new to the game and currently get your serves and returns in bounds about 40% of the time or less.
Lower Intermediate Level You know the basics and have a solid understanding of how the game flows.
Knowledge: You understand the two-bounce rule, keep score without mistakes, know the correct starting positions, and can serve from the proper location.
Skills: You can keep the ball in play for a few hits, move safely around the court, and are aware of dinks, drives, and overheads.
Consistency: Your serves and returns land in bounds at least 50% of the time.
Intermediate Level You know the rules inside and out, and you are starting to think about strategy.
Knowledge: You have a good understanding of the basic rules and know exactly how to position yourself for each point.
Skills: You can successfully hit forehand and backhand volleys at the Non-Volley Zone (NVZ) with control over height and depth. You move easily in all directions to chase down balls.
Strategy: You actively move to the NVZ after returning a serve instead of retreating. You are aware of dinking and are starting to use third-shot drops and drives consistently.
Consistency: Your serves and returns must land in bounds at least 75% of the time.
Please note: If you are undecided if you should move to the next level, you need approval from the instructors. They will determine if you have advanced to the next level, need to move down a level or stay at the same level.
